Activities:

1. Research and illustrate how coal was formed.

2. Display examples of soft and hard coal.

3. Make a display of some of the by-products of coal.

4. Create a Depression Flower - 

Mix: 6 tablespoons of water, 6 tablespoons of salt, 6 tablespoons of bluing, 1 tablespoon of ammonia.

Stir until salt dissolves. Arrange one or more pieces of coal in a bowl or flat dish. Pour the mixture over the coal. Use mercurochrome or food coloring for different hues. Add more liquid along to keep it growing.
